Dragon Ball Z Kai: TV Show on Nicktoons Network

Dragon Ball Z Kai (known in Japan as Dragon Ball Kai) is a revised version of the anime series Dragon Ball Z produced in commemoration of the original's twentieth anniversary. It began broadcasting in Japan on Fuji Television on April 5, 2009 and ended on March 27, 2011. It features remastered high definition picture, sound, and special effects as well as a re-recorded voice track by most of the original cast. As most of the series' sketches and animation cels had been discarded since the final episode of Dragon Ball Z in 1996, new frames were produced by digitally tracing over still frames from existing footage and filling them with softer colors; thus reducing visible damage to the original animation. Some frames were selectively cropped, while other frames feature new portions added to scenes that were hand drawn to conform to the designated picture ratio. Much of the material from the Dragon Ball Z anime that was not featured in the Dragon Ball manga has been left out in Kai, as well as the final story arc of both the manga and original Dragon Ball Z series, thus significantly reducing the total episode count.
The series uses three pieces of theme music. The opening theme, titled "Dragon Soul", is performed by Takayoshi Tanimoto, who also performed the first ending theme, titled "Yeah! Break! Care! Break!". Both pieces are part of a unit called Dragon Soul with guitarist and composer Takafumi Iwasaki. The second ending theme, starting from episode 55 onwards, is titled "Kokoro no Hane" performed by Team Dragon from AKB48, an all-female group composed of members from AKB48. The background music for the series was composed by Kenji Yamamoto, whose music was used for most of the series; however, Yamamoto's music was later replaced with music cues originally composed for Dragon Ball Z by Shunsuke Kikuchi, after Yamamoto was accused of infringement. Although the story footage is taken from existing material, the opening and closing sequences were made from scratch using updated animation methods. The first Blu-Ray and DVD compilation was released in Japan on September 18, 2009, with individual volumes releasing monthly as well as Blu-Ray box sets.
In 2010, Funimation Entertainment licensed the series for an English-language release. The series made its U.S. premiere on the Nicktoons network on May 24, 2010. Funimation's dub of Kai features most of the voice actors from their in-house dub of Dragon Ball Z (though also several re-casts), as well as a more faithful adaptation of the Japanese dialogue than their previous dub. In addition to Nicktoons, Kai also began airing on The CW's Toonzai programming block on August 14, 2010. Furthermore, Funimation is also releasing bilingual uncut DVD and Blu-Ray box sets of the series in the U.S.
Also in 2010, Kirby Morrow announced that Ocean Productions had started producing an alternate English dub of Kai, which is to be released in Canada and the U.K. instead of Funimation's dub.
Dragon Ball Z Kai Season 1 Episode 69 (I Am Your Brother!; The Monster With Goku's Energy!) airs: Thursday, June 30, 2011 at 8:00pm EDT on Nicktoons Network. Synopsis of the episode: The Super Namekian must face a terrifying monster.

Burn Notice: American TV Series on USA Network

Burn Notice is an American television series created by Matt Nix. The show stars Jeffrey Donovan, Gabrielle Anwar, Bruce Campbell, Sharon Gless, and, beginning in the fourth season, Coby Bell. The series premiered on June 28, 2007, on USA Network. On April 15, 2010, the show was renewed for its fifth and sixth seasons. The fifth season of Burn Notice will start on June 23, 2011.
The series title refers to the burn notices issued by intelligence agencies to discredit or announce the dismissal of agents or sources who are considered to have become unreliable. When spies are burned, their connection to an espionage organization is terminated, leaving them without access to cash or influence. According to the narration during the opening credits, the burned spy has no prior work history, no money, no support network — in essence, no identity. The television series uses first-person narrative (including frequent voice-overs providing exposition) from the viewpoint of covert-operations agent Michael Westen, played by Jeffrey Donovan. The voice-over commentary is in the form of tips for fledgling agents as if for a training or orientation film.
After fleeing a blown operation in Nigeria and being kidnapped and beaten, Westen finds himself in his hometown of Miami, Florida. He is tended to by his ex-girlfriend, Fiona Glenanne, but he has been abandoned by all his normal intelligence contacts and is under continuous surveillance with his personal assets frozen. Extraordinary efforts to reach his U.S. government handler eventually yield only a grudging admission that someone powerful wants him "on ice" in Miami. If he leaves there, he will be hunted down and taken into custody; whereas, if he stays, he can remain relatively free. Consumed by the desire to find out why he has been burned, and by whom, Westen is reluctantly drawn into working as an unlicensed private investigator and problem solver for ordinary citizens to fund his personal investigation into his situation as a blacklisted agent.
Westen invites his old friend Sam Axe to assist him, while Fiona invites herself to join them. With the occasional assistance and sometimes hindrance of his mother, Madeline, Westen battles an array of such criminal figures as mobsters, con artists, arms traffickers, kidnappers, money launderers, and drug traffickers. At the same time, Michael must follow the trail that leads him to the people responsible for his being burned, and later finding out why.
The series juggles these two narratives; the overall series dealing with why Michael was burned, and individual episodes focusing on the cases he works for clients.
Burn Notice Season 5 Episode 1 (Company Man) airs: Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 9:00pm EDT on USA Network. Synopsis of the episode: Michael works to bring down the people who burned him.

Although he and his staff restore the items brought in by customers themselves, they are shown consulting other merchants and experts for parts, and calling in freelance employees, such as Bob, a metalworker, when their workload requires it. In addition to items brought in by customers, Dale will also purchase items himself to restore from pickers, such as the toy train he purchases in "Buttered Up". The range of services offered by Rick's Restorations is limited by financial concerns. Starting in the third season, the Talent top prize included US$1 million, payable in a financial annuity over forty years (or the present cash value of such annuity), and a show as the headliner on the Las Vegas Strip.
Among its significant features were that it gave an opportunity to talented amateurs or unknown performers, with the results decided by an audience vote. The format is a popular one and has often been reworked for television in the United States and the United Kingdom.
The current incarnation was created by Simon Cowell, and was originally due to be a 2005 British series called Paul O'Grady's Got Talent but was postponed due to O'Grady's acrimonious split with broadcaster ITV. As such, the American version became the first full series of the Got Talent franchise.
Despite being heavily involved in the show's production, Simon Cowell does not appear as a judge. This is due to the conditions of his contract with Fox Network.
America's Got Talent Season 6 Episode 5 can be watched on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 8:00pm EDT on WNBC (NBC).
